Clean Shingle-to-Membrane Transition With New Skylight Installation

When a roof has two different systems running side by side - a pitched shingle section and a low-slope membrane section - the transition between them is where most problems start. Water finds its way in at those meeting points if the work isn't done right. That's exactly why we treat those details with the same care as the rest of the job.

Here's what we were working with on this one. A shingle roof meeting a flat membrane system, new skylights going in, and pipe penetrations that all needed proper flashing. Three separate elements that each have to be done correctly - and they all have to work together. Miss any one of them and you're looking at a leak down the road.

The membrane side of this roof got a clean, tight installation that lays flat along the ridge. On the shingle side, the courses are laid evenly with consistent exposure. Where the two systems meet, the transition is neat and deliberate - not patched together. That kind of clean handoff between roofing systems is what separates a roof that holds up for years from one that needs a repair call inside of two seasons.

The skylights were set in with CertainTeed underlayment and proper step flashing worked around each unit. Same goes for the pipe penetrations - flashed and sealed so there's no gap for water to work into. These are the spots that don't get seen once everything is finished, which is exactly why they matter so much. You can't fix what you can't see.
